The main purpose of work is to obtain compensation, but obtaining compensation is not the only purpose of work, nor is it the ultimate purpose of work. Growing one's abilities in the workplace, realizing one's personal value through work, and giving back to society through work are all purposes of work. There is a person who has worked at a local agricultural research institute for decades, traveling between the north and South every day, squatting in the fields, experimenting with and cultivating high-yield grain varieties, sweating profusely on sunny days and covered in mud on rainy days, covered in mosquito bites. He finally cultivated a variety called "Zhang Mixed Grain," which changed the history of dry-land crops such as millet, which had an acreage yield of only over 200 kilograms, to a yield of 700-800 kilograms per acre. Zhang Mixed Grain was successfully grown in Africa, and the World Food and Agriculture Organization gave him high praise. He has made such a great contribution to humanity, but his salary is only a few thousand yuan. If he only worked for this meager salary, he could easily do some effortless work in the office like everyone else.
Only focusing on compensation to determine work is a short-sighted approach. Compensation is the byproduct of doing what needs to be done. The primary duty of an employee is to focus on their work and think about how to do it better. In one's career, one cannot expect a perfect balance between one's input and output. If you demand to be compensated in proportion to your workload, you will have to wait for a relatively long time and continue to work actively while waiting for fairness to arrive. There is a saying that today's results are determined by yesterday's efforts, and yesterday's efforts were determined by the attitude of the day before yesterday.
Understanding the value of work. The sense of accomplishment from completing difficult work is priceless. Although the criteria for choosing a job vary from person to person, selecting a job based on its value will certainly make one's life more fulfilling.
