A Prayer from Dr. Stanley
Father, how grateful we are that we can turn to You during such a difficult time. We are heartbroken by the evil of racism and murder we have witnessed. I pray for the family of George Floyd. Please comfort them in this devastating time. We also pray for so many other families who have suffered the same injustices. We mourn with them, and we ask You to console them powerfully, as only You can.
Lord, my heart is especially burdened for the parents and grandparents in the Black community, who love You and teach their children to do what is right and godly. What heartache they must be experiencing for their loved ones. Comfort them—give them hope and wisdom. They hurt, and as part of Your Body together with them, we are all grieving. Please show us how to love and support our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Likewise, we beseech You to take hold of and reveal Yourself to those who are acting out of confusion and pain. Show them what is possible through faith in You and bring godly change from the righteous indignation that they feel. For those who are being destructive, we ask that You would stop them and convict them of their need for You in a powerful way.
We pray for the business owners and communities that have lost so much. Help them not to lose heart, but work through Your people to help them get back on their feet. We thank You for first responders who have been so faithful during this time. Protect them and work through them, Lord. But for those who are acting with evil intent, we ask that You expose what is hidden and root it out completely.
Father, we know that You understand the depth of the issues we’re facing—far more than we ever could. We need You to lead us because there are no easy answers. Please forgive our sin. We know from Your Word that the spirits of division and hatred are from the enemy. But You call us to be peacemakers and to love one another as You have loved us. Forgive us and teach us to shine Your light in the dark places of this world.
We need You, Jesus. Only You can truly heal us. Lead us to revival in the church and spiritual awakening in the nation. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
